I am not completely sure if this would be the correct place to post this but here it goes. I am using smf (http://www.simplemachines.org) to run a sports forum. All browers work great except on problem with IE. After posting the forum with take the person back to the thread but instead of going back to the thread and then loading the page it hangs at the url anywhere from 5-10 seconds and then the page shows fully loaded. It seems explorer is waiting to fully load the page before deplaying anything. Is there a way around this?
@NogDogOct 13.2006 — #My guess is that it's the HTML that gets output, along with the different browsers' rendering engines. Most forum software utilizes tabular HTML layouts, often with some nesting of tables. This by itself adds some rendering time, and if the first row of cells in each table do not have explicit width assignments, then the browser may need to run through all the dynamic table cell dimension calculations before it starts rendering things. Therefore it may be waiting for everything to get downloaded, then it's doing its rendering calculations, and then finally displaying things.
But this is all just speculation on my part. Maybe your combination of IE plug-ins, anti-virus software, and other things I wouldn't even have thought of are also combining in some strange way to slow things down.
