printing solution for PHP Web application

Could anybody suggest of a good solution for printing quality reports from a web application. A PDF converter maybe?

I do not want to send the page to print from the browser since I cannot control much of the printing formatting (i.e. orientation, header and footer the browser puts in by default). And since many browser dont support the CSS properties to control these I find myself looking for an alternative.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.
