[RESOLVED] website analysis help

Hi all, I am extremely new to the wed design/developmet world. I wasnt sure which forum to put this in….

I am trying to transfer between departments in my company, and my potential new boss has already asked me to present something to her – posted below:

Put together a process to monitor the quality of all Intranet/Internal web pages (350+ ) on a monthly basis. Quality encompasses low utilization, missing metadata, incorrect spelling, broken links, incorrect formatting, missing items, etc. Be prepared to discuss your process as well as how you went about putting the process together.

I feel a little overwhelmed because she expects this by thursday, and I am not even in the position yet. I’d really appreciate some ideas from all of you. Unfortunately, I have no idea what systems and reporting they have available. So say, I dont know if they have a link checker or validator that would automate that process.

Any thoughts and ideas you could give me would be great !

@KDLASep 27.2006 — Web statistics software would answer most of those questions.

Google Analytics is free, and answers many of those questions. You will need to insert the Google code onto each page, but it is worth it.

@The_MagusSep 27.2006 — I have no idea of what your job title is or what you do but my first response was to wonder what the heck you had done in the past to p...s this lady off.

With this sort of welcome before you are even in situ, I would suggest you not unpack your kit.

Cheers - ever onward and upward.

@KDLASep 27.2006 — Ah, it's not TOO uncommon. I just interviewed for a position (and got) where I was asked to demonstrate my ability to interpret web statistics and use these to improve the website. Many times, these types of employers are testing your ability to market the site, instead of just maintaining it.

@red1294authorSep 27.2006 — i am truly having second thoughts about if I am right for this position, and if I can work with this woman as my boss. I still have time to back out I suppose, and stay where I am in finance instead of moving to the web group.

I odont know.... I am so torn.

@KDLASep 27.2006 — It could be that you're more intimidated by the way she described the project, than the project itself. It never hurts to sit down and talk to her. If, then, you find out she's too demanding, you can back out. If you back out now, without clarification, you'll always wonder.

@red1294authorSep 27.2006 — KDLA thanks for your advice.

After talking it over with some of my current team members (one of whom was my manager at a previous job) I have decided to go through with presenting this liitle project to her tomorrow, and hoping I'll get a better feel of her personality.

I will still have until Monday to change my mind if I dont feel that tomorrow goes well...
