@felgallSep 21.2006 — Well before you can make a web site dynamic you first need to be able to create static pages. For that you need HTML and CSS.

Once you understand HTML and CSS well enough then you can add:

Client side programming using Javascript.

Client side plugin processing (for those who have the appropriate plugins installed) with Java and or Adobe Flash.

Server side programming using PHP, ASP, .NET, Coldfusion, JSP, PERL, Python, Ruby, or any other server side web language (depending on which are available on your hosting).

You will probably also need a database on the server to store things in in which case you will probably choose MySQL or Microsoft SQL server (depending on which are available on your hosting).

The following terms relate to combinations of the above languages.

DHTML - HTML + CSS + Javascript to animate things on the page.

Ajax - Javascript + a server side language to update the current page without reloading the whole page.

API - stands for Application Programming Interface and is a librrary of prebuilt functions for performing set tasks (eg. the Windows API contains all of the functions for displaying , resizing, printing of windows etc).

SQL - stands for Structured Query Language and is the standard way that all relational databases are references (MySQL, MS SQL Server, DB/2, Oracle, Ingres, Sybase etc all understand SQL)

JSP and Java are the same language just running in different places (JSP stands for Java Server Pages)

Object Oriented Programming can be used with most of the programming languages previously mentioned.

@RecoilauthorSep 21.2006 — What about WAMP

@chesemonkylomaSep 21.2006 — what about it? wamp is the combination of windows, apache, mysql, and php. If you don't even know HTML yet, you most definitely do not need WAMP. I had WAMP, and now I have xampp, they are both good, but like i said you dont need them... you cant even spell "too" correctly

@chesemonkylomaSep 21.2006 — ok maybe that was a little harsh, i apologize
