Im having problems and i cant figure it out

i have 2 seperate hosts on the exact same hosting company both hosts are the same package of hosting features so i assume that bothe would work the same way with all things i do

on one host i can get the following to work

Options +FollowSymLinks
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /

RewriteRule ^{^speaker–([A-Za-z0-9-]+).html$} index.php?spid=$1

this is just a test example of what i want to do but it works

on the other host however using the same stuff it does not work

the location on the other host i am trying to get it to work in is a folder

i have tried every combination i can think of for putting the folder name in the RewriteBase section or before the page names in the RewriteRule section

but no combination seems to work

and it doesnt work without (as above) either

can anyone help me out with suggestions on what might be wrong or how i can solve this
