Javascript Write to file?

Is it possible for javascript to write to a local file? I’ve done some googling and I’ve gotten the impression that activeX may be the only way, which is something I want to avoid. If its not possible, maybe someone can help me out with an alternative. What I’m looking to do is write a bookmarklet that will append the current address to a local file. The addresses in the file are used by another program but I won’t get into the details here. If not possible in javascript, can bookmarklets or something similar be written in other scripting languages? Essentially I want a single click way to write the current address to a file. Sorry if this was a little long winded and thanks in advance for any help.

@felgallSep 20.2006 — I don't know if vbScript has a way to do it but that or ActiveX would be your only choices for an Internet Explorer Bookmarklet.

Other browsers don't provide any way at all to access the local file system from within the browser.
