Billing/Support System

Let me startoff by saying I know minimal php as I am still learning it.

Here is what I am looking for.
I want a Billing/Support system that I can use on my computer and web services site.

I would like one system that does both… or separate systems that can share user databases.

What I want from the billing system:
Ability to have recurring and non-recurring invoices.
Ability to bill for more than one thing per invoice.
Ability to bill for products as well services on the same invoice.

(thats all i can think of for now)

What I want from the Support System:
A forum setting where users can assist eachother with stuff.
A ticketing system where only Moderators and Admins can answer users questions.
An FAQ with different sections.
A live chat section

(thats all i can think of for now)

Features I want the whole system to have:
A user section where users can see their open/pending/closed tickets and paid/unpaid invoices.
Also, a tracker for posts the have made in the forum.

(thats all i can think of for now)

Anyone have any ideas for me on where I can start?

@DJsACSep 10.2006 — I recommend hiring a professional webdeveloper. Seeing as how it includes payment details and how you have minimal php knowledge, and its such a huge project I doubt you'll be able to do it yourself, unless you plan on a completion date in 2+ years...

Writing your own system to handle the above requests from scratch is a HUGE undertaking. Because it handles bank-account numbers, or creditcards etc It has to be extremely secure. The ticketing system and forum etc could be standalone and based on existing systems, but they could possibly also form a security hole for the rest of the system.

If you are still learning php I honestly don't think you should attempt to do this yourself.

I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I just think it's better to warn you now, before you work on it for 8 months, and end up using a (selfmade ?) system that has less options than you originally wanted, and might be insecure.

Pricing/wage discussions are not allowed on these forums, nor are job adverts. You'll have to use a job web site or find a forum for matching up clients with contractors.

Frankly, I think the best value for you will be to find off-the-shelf solutions: the cost for the time and effort to make one is distributed amongst multiple buyers, whereas you'll have to pay for 100% of the effort to have someone make a custom product for you.

You may want to look to hire someone to help you choose the right products and install, integrate, and customize them to your needs; but I would not recommend trying to build it all from scratch.

First off, sorry, I did not realize pricing discussions werent allowed in this board. Next, I realize writing something like this from scratch would take a lot of time, work, and effort... and was posting here to see if I could get the advice on what products to install, integrate, and customize to my needs for free. Since I am on somewhat of a tight buget right now.

Thank you.

@NogDogSep 10.2006 — You could poke around www.SourceForge.net and see if there are any promising-looking open-source applications. For instance, go to the financial projects page and do a search on "billing", and you come up with 47 results.

@dvdd127authorSep 10.2006 — i have done this... but as i dont know much about any of these scripts or any scripts like it.. I am looking for someone who has used such a script who can assist me with a particular script.

when i say a particular script.. i mean one that they know inside out.

@NogDogSep 10.2006 — Just a thought: you might also want to look for a forum for users (not sure what to search for: billing, accounting, or what?) to see if there are any "best of class" applications they recommend from a user's and/or subject matter expert's point of view. It's good to have someone here tell you what's good technically, but it's also good to make sure you're getting a product that does what you really want in a way you're comfortable working with it. (Also, you're probably more likely to encounter people there who have used more different products than you are here.)

I'm not trying to chase you away from here, mind you; I'm just brain-storming some thoughts here. ?

@DJsACSep 10.2006 — Most of the developers there also leave their contact info, you could just pick a couple of applications that look promising and send an email to the developer. He might help you out, point you at a good alternative, or even customize his own application to suite your needs ?

You'll never know if you don't ask?

@neenach2002Sep 12.2006 — I suggest AgileBill...

Though the price seems to have skyrocketed. It was very affordable a while ago, and is still top-notch (but fairly high priced)!

I do custom site integrations with it.

I promise you it is PHP based.

If it's not, I shall stick my DIRTY foot in my mouth and leave it there.

I'm running it on my hosting site right now. http://www.netlinkhosting.com/order/
