Need Time Quote for this site Legal Reasons

Hello, I am new to this site and have an important question to ask, I asked a friend of a friend to build a fully functional easy to use nice high tech website, he said that would cost [price removed by bathurst_guy, see my post following] but since we was a friend he would do it for [price removed by bathurst_guy, see my post following], here is the site he gave me http://www.designrealm.net/gpsshopzone/shop/index.php

he said it took him over 9 weeks to build because it is so complex, i do not know much about sites but this looks pretty generic and has very little high techness lol if that is a word.

Can anyone give me an estimate as to how long this site probably took to make? Including the coding and everything?

@intriviousSep 06.2006 — In my opinion, it seems to be a very complete site. But the message:

"Note: This is ViArt Shopping Cart. To get the commercial version please visit http://www.codetosell.com"

makes me want to think it was just a trial version of something, and your friend just made some changes to the source.

If so, I don't see how this could have taken 9 weeks to customize. I would imagine if it was just a matter of customizing a pre-made script it would have taken less time.

On the otherhand, if he did develop it from scratch and all functionality and security is there, it is very possible that it took 9 weeks to develop.

Hope this helped :/

@NGASalesauthorSep 06.2006 — I am not really into this stuff that much so i do not know, but he claims that he bought the software but can only use it on the final domain? Can anyone help me out there? If it is Demo software what is the time frame to get it up? www.viart.com is where the code came from. Also what would a normal charge be for a site like this minus the fees of hosting and SSL?

@intriviousSep 06.2006 — I doubt the demo has a limit of time to use, but there is no way to find out unless you did some digging around viart.com or searching for yourself. As for the charge for that site, it could vary greatly from developer to developer. I don't think [price removed by bathurst_guy, see my post following] is that bad of a price, especially if everything is ready to go live. It is a very complete site. But, knowing that he just bought a template and made some changes, you might be able to chip that price down. Just remember though, without him, you wouldn't have what you do. Even though he might have used a template, he still has provided a nice ecommerce gateway for your visitors, regardless of the method.

@pcthugSep 06.2006 — An installation and customization of a commercial product should never amount to [price removed by bathurst_guy, see my post following] let alone [price removed by bathurst_guy, see my post following]. If you paid the [price removed by bathurst_guy, see my post following] you have not been given a fair deal and I would defiantly consider asking for a refund - at maximum, it may have taken 3 days to setup, customize and test.

@bathurst_guySep 06.2006 — I have edited costs out of this thread. Please note that it is not only a forum rule, but a law in some countries, that discussing pricing for web development is prohibited.

Please don't hesitate to ask if you would like any further information.

I have also closed this thread from replies to minimise the chance of this happening again.
