Need Advice On Site Search Program

Anyone available to advise on a free site search program?
I would like the code on my site – preferably in my home page or main page left border.
any suggestions??? the one I am using now is not working – keeps coming up with error messages and I don’t know what the error messages mean.

Usually a CMS also comes with a search plugin...

@hansschmuckerAug 18.2006 — A content management system... a software which organizes your data and turns it into a webpage... right now your site seems to run on a whole lot of individual files... but what if you want to change the design or some other data across all documents? That's where a CMS steps in... a pretty popular and easy to use one is Joomla ( http://www.joomla.org/ ). You'll need something like that to do a search across all pages, Javascript can't do that (at least not without transfering ALL files to the user first)
