To OOP or not?

Hi
I’m redeveloping my website and part of the motivation to do it is to tidy everything up – html, css and php.

In the past, where I have needed to use PHP to generate some html I have written a new stand-alone function and created a new variable in the code.

However, I’ve recently seen an approach that uses Classes (such as Page class, Database class, etc) and wondered if there was any advantage in that method? Is that OOP?

For one, I don’t really understand the technical side of it too well – but I can learn.
