Simple Machine Forums

I was just curious- If I want to use Simple Machines Forum, do I need an intimate knowledge of PHP and MySQL, and do I need a database?

The SMF website doesn’t really cover that.

Thanks!

@bmassAug 13.2006 — You don't need PHP knowledge as you can set up everything via Admin Control Panel. However you do need a database (as with all forums) and I tiny bit of MySQL knowledge, but the instructions are convered in the install package.

@NogDogAug 13.2006 — It requires MySQL for the database.

@dz_boyauthorAug 13.2006 — Thank you- so would it be better for me to focus on learning MySQL or PHP at this point (I'm totally novice at both)?

@bmassAug 13.2006 — You don't really need to learn MySQL to do it, it is just a couple simple steps to setting up a database which are outlined in the installation tutorial. I would learn PHP if I were you.
