IE css menu problem

Hi

I’ve got problems with a css menu. I’ve used it for a year and it has been working fine, but I’ve added a background image and now the sub menus drop out in IE.

It’s probably easier to view it to see what I mean, I’ve put the css on the page with the menu .

Thanks

@WebJoelAug 11.2006 — I'm not good with menus, -complicated things! :mad:

Anyway, -I see no errors (good job!), -but what is this id="right" thing that seems to hold some javascript? (see attached image).

I'm just curious because your page displays slightly differently in IE than in Fx (the Firefox ad is missing) and the navigation menu is tight against the left-hand side whereas in IE it is about 25 or 35 pixels to the right of left:0.

I noted that the navigation is a child of the id="right" (that red box thingie to the right of your page) and that looks a bit unweildy somehow...

It works, but there should be a better way to do that..

@tankedupauthorAug 12.2006 — Hi WebJoel

Thanks for the reply, I'll explain what I can.

The id="right" is a spare column now. It used to have 4 google ads (still has on photo pages), but I felt it was too in your face and opted for a less is more thing. I intend to stick a dive news feed in it now. The js is just a stat counter.

I know the shift is messy, but I just can't get firefox/opera & IE to tie up! I opted for getting it to work in these browsers at 800x600 to 1280x1024 and left it. I'm a bit concerned that things aren't showing up with you though.

Anyway, menus ... this is the same menu as the main site but using a background image instead of a colour in the css. I may have to change to a simpler menu if this is unfixable. It's maddening 'cos it's so close to working!

@tankedupauthorAug 12.2006 — I'd like to thank ray326 who didn't help directly, but on reading the reply to 'problem with css backgrounds' he suggested adding a 1px border to see what's going on. Top idea and sorted the positioning issue I had. Firefox extension 'webdeveloper toolbar' will do this, but not in IE obviously.

Also added a 1px colour difference to the image, which helped afterwards.

Have got the menu working in IE by setting #nav ul to '0' padding, but if I set #nav li.sub1 to '0' padding IE falls apart. Can anyone tell me why?

Updated menu is in the same place

and now looks good in IE, but a bit cranky, but working in the rest. Will look better when I remove the 1px colour from image, but does anyone know how to fix it?
