Fixed Gradient background

I would like to have my background fade from 80% black at the top to a 20% black at the bottom, but no matter how big the user opens his browser window this should always be thrue. can be done in withis this code(see bottom) but it only works on IE, I need something accross the board.Thanks

this may help but as far as I know there is no one universal method with css so you will need some sort of javascript browser type detection.
