Personal Page/Profile Help

I have an Idea for a site, that I would like people to sign up on. I am past the part where I ask questions like the name they would like and what there E-Mail is. Once they register for my site and hit the submit button how do I chain that with giving the person a profile/page sort of deal. Where does all this save, and how in the world would I code that. This sort of deal is new to me I would really like any help at all. Thanks
If you would like to send Code/Help to my E-Mail that works to ([email protected]) please just dont send me a block of code, please explain it because I would like to learn something from this.
