Paragraph problems

I am having sum trouble with the <p> tag, when ever i put a word inside the <p></p> it always has a line above and below it, i would like to have 2 paragraphs together with no line seperating them. I want to keep them as two paragraphs and not change it to one. can any one help? Matt
