JavaScript Hit Counter

When you make a hit counter for your site with JavaScript where is the number of hits stored?

@felgallJul 21.2006 — If you want the count to reflect hits by more than the current visitor then it has to be done server side (either flat file or database). Javascript can only store the count in a cookie that is specific to each individual visitor.
