Two Tables With Shoulders Carassing

greetings digimasters.
i is, uh, inexperienced in the way of the digimaster.
i have some weird code cuz i uh, couldn’t take the time to read a html book.
this is what i have:

***************

<style>
opacity crap
</style>

<CENTER>
<table style=”background:url(..)>
<td width=”600″>

pictures
<style type=”text/css”>
stuff
</style>

writing

****************

WHAT I WANT TO DO IS…………. take that table with the background url and make it skinnier, about 400. (because i want the picture to be smaller) AND THEN place a table that is about 200 to the left of it….. BOTH CENTERED……. and it has to have a RED BACKGROUND.
can the digimasters help?

@the_treeJul 15.2006 — You really don't want to be using tables for layout. They bring up accessability, flexibility and SEO issues that you can just do without. You'll find things a lot easier if you use CSS for presentation and leave HTML for document structure.

These "validators" will help you clean up your code.
•
HTML Validator
  •
CSS Validator
  •
@digeemanauthorJul 15.2006 — I appreciate your responses digiMASTERS but this hasnt been of much help. What alternative is there to TABLES? I want tables with background urls and/or colors with opacity settings resting on top of yet another webpage background. If I shouldn't use a table for this, what should I use? I am using CSS but I'm also using HTML because I don't now any other alternatives. I don't think I need a validator at this point but I appreciate the suggestion. In fact I appreciate any and ALL suggestions. ?

    @digeemanauthorJul 15.2006 — and i just want to get to the POINT. I only have ONE table now and the whole topic of this forum is that I want TWO as explained in my first post. CSS or HTML, sloppy or not sloppy, I need some help here.

    @felgallJul 15.2006 — Unless you have actual tabular data to display you should not be using tables.

    Unless you are using an editor that generates the HTML for you, you should take the time to learn HTML and CSS before trying to create web pages. Unless your pages are properly coded with no validatio errors they will display as garbage on one or more browsers. You have more time available to fix your pages than anyone else.

    @digeemanauthorJul 15.2006 — okay i can see its obvious that no one wants to help me. all this fancy stuff that people r throwing at me like "tabular" and "validators" have NOTHING to do with my request. I may not have the "expertise" that everyone else here has. But first off, I am not even making a webpage like most people are. I'm using diaryland, which is basically an online diary where u can use your own html and css. Second of all, all I'm try to do is take that preexisting table and make one next to it that has no url picture background, that is a specific width, and is red. How simple can that request be? Your taking the time to tell me not to use tables when that is the only thing I am asking for. So much for a forum. Bunch of hotshots just mumbling nonsense instead of giving the specific facts requested. If your son asked for bread, would you give him a snake?
