Side bar color

I was reading a tutorial in html goodies and it told me how to put color in my sidebar… I tried it and it didn’t work. Can someone plz plz plz help me. Here is the code that html goodies gave me.

@felgallJul 01.2006 — That is non-standard code that works in Internet Explorer only.

The HTML Goodies site was written by someone who tried things out and documented what worked rather than documenting the correct standard way to do things. Much of what worked when the Goodies site was written was non-standard and doesn't work in modern browsers.

@AgenatorauthorJul 08.2006 — Well I cleaned up my webpage meaning I got an understanding of where the head is supposed to end and that your only supposed to have 1 body (prob the first thing every1 else learned except for me. This book was pretty bad when it came to that!!!!!)

LOL Anyway after I did that the scroll bar worked and Im back up and running again!!!!!! Thanks
