HTML Object Limitations

I’m working on an internal web page, I’m still learning many many new and facinating features and components of HTML (XHTML).

The application I’m working on uses JavaScript and CSS to dynamically create upto 5 tabbed overlayed screens by hidding and blocking divs. At least one of these screens also has additions overlayed divs.

Each of these screens can have many text fields, selects check boxes etc.

I seem to have run into some kind of limitation which effectively blocks my JavaScript submit. In otherwords if I remove some objects the page works correctly, depending on what is deleted different failures modes occur with the JavaScript submit.

I do not seem to be having a problem with available system memory.

Is anyone aware of any such limitations?

@the_treeJun 12.2006 — Urm, how on earth are you managing to take up too much memory, this sounds like some really, really, simple Javascript. Is it all just one form or many different forms? What do you mean by Javascipt submit?

@rtcraig40authorJun 12.2006 — I have a stripped down version of the code that exhibits the problem, but it is about 60,000 characters long, much longer than allowed here. If I have an address to send it I will be glad to do so - The problem appears to be length and object count related, I've tried to shrink it further but when I do everything works correctly.

I've had several people here look at but they are as baffled as I am. Each component of the code has been checked and rechecked for syntax and all seems to be in order.

This is the JavaScript for the application in question.

<SCRIPT language='JavaScript'>

function submitAction(strValue, strArgRptAction, strArgRptType)

{

document.frmRptDef.bnTab1.value = strValue;

document.frmRptDef.RPT_ACTION.value = strArgRptAction;

document.frmRptDef.RPT_TYPE_VAL.value = strArgRptType;

document.frmRptDef.submit();

}

</SCRIPT>

@the_treeJun 12.2006 — Is there a reason why you're using Javascript to submit the form? If you could just show us a link to the pages that would be swell.

@rtcraig40authorJun 12.2006 — I would LOVE to provide a link to the problem, but alas, the site is behind the company firewall and the URL is not accessable outside the company.

The only way I can get the source to you so that you can see it is to E-Mail it to you.

If that is acceptable my E-Mail address is [email protected] - I'll simply reply with the code.
