execute a system command in mozilla extension

Hi,

I am coding a mozilla extension that requires a traceroute command.
The question is : how to execute a system command? I know I can’t do that in javascript, but is it possible with chrome privilege ?
If I can’t execute a system command, can I execute a java (.class) file from javascript with chrome privilege ?

Or if you have any other idea…
