Help for real newbie

Hello, here’s my post and the answer I got a moment ago. I am new to all this, and I see I have several things to do, so I need first, someone to show me where to learn the basics, thanks:

Hello,

I’m new here, and I’m not a professional web designer, I’m a young professional photographer from Barcelona, Spain. I learned some html and dreamweaver just to show my images in my new webpage www.artimag.eu which can be viewed, although yet I’m finishing the english part these days; if you want to see it, please pick the spanish banner, and appart from languages, both webpages are identical, you just can’t enlarge photographs by now in the english section…

I would thank some help with one precise question. For easy of use from every computer and country when viewing it, I did avoid flash and active contents, yet I’m satisfied, I don’t need more, and for my use, I didn’t write plain text, just text converted to images in photoshop. So I am thinking now about a google search, for example. I guess it’s impossible to find my name Juan Valdenebro and the name of my studio, Artimag, in a google search, because both of them are images inside my page, and never text.

The question is: what should I add to my index.html file (maybe text) to be found in a google search? I thought: what if I just add black text over the black background? (being invisible then), and then I did it: I put a new layer with the text “Juan Valdenebro, Artimag Studio”, but google found nothing again…

Well, some of you should be smiling, I think I’m far from doing the right thing, I’m really lost… Thanks for your help.

First: wrong section…this should be in the search engine forum, just
take a look from the index page and you’ll find it.

But to answer your question…it’s far from that simple.

Never use text with the same color as your background…the search
engines are quite intelligent now and look for that and will penalize you
for it.

You need to add some content to your site, maybe descriptions of your
images and of yourself.

You also need to make sure your page headers are set up properly with
all the correct meta data.

Also, in your site root make sure you have a robots.txt file, a google
site map, and a html version site map.

You can get all this info from the search engine forum, and also from
google site map here:
http://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/login?continue=%2Fwebmasters%2Fsitemaps%2Fsiteoverview&hl=en

this version is english so switch your language and you will be
fine…you’ll also need a google account.

But really, post your questions in the search engine forum, you’ll get
a lot of great advice there.
