Script run on window close

what i need to happen is:

if a user exits their browser using the X in the corner or any other means, can i run a php script when this happens or is it impossible because the window will be closed.

i’m developing a chat system using ajax and i need to delete the user from the chat session(registered in the database) if the window is closed.

@bokehMay 18.2006 — Relying on a client action to clean up your database tables is a very bad idea. Delete the user from the table based on inactivity. If they refresh every 10 seconds remove them if 15 seconds pass without a refresh.
