i have had to use backslashes where you have put double quotation marks, could this be affecting it?

eeer... javascript in an e-mail is a tricky thing... I use Thunderbird and, for security reasons, I set it to refuse javascript it attached/embeded files. Javascript might work for some, but you can not fight with the user's settings.
