Noob question regarding my new domain

I registered and paid for hosting service with doteasy.com. At this point I have no plans to make any website of it, I just wanted the host space to be able to link others to pictures and videos that I upload. I’m able to use their “file manager” to view all the root folders for the site, but I don’t know where to put the files to link others to. I tried to put them in the “home” folder, but when I used the link externally I get a 404 error. I found some permissions options, and set write/read/execute for the home folder, the subfolder AND the file, but it still won’t work externally. I just want to host some files, any ideas? Thanks much.

I appreciate the offer, but I have already paid for the space and domain name, so I'd prefer to make use of it.

I FTP'd into it using WSFTP, but it's the same issue. I uploaded the file, but it can't be accessed through linking someone (i.e. www.mywebsite.com/home/picture.jpg)

My domain has all these folders I know nothing about (I know nada about webdeving). /var and /bin and whatever else. I just created my own folder within the /home and tried putting the files there, but nope, 404 when joe-blow tries to click it.

I found this when looking at the site config menu...

DocumentRoot = /var/www/html

So I assume I should be able to host openly from there. I created a subfolder in there and put a file there, still no go ?

@mikexx2020May 13.2006 — in dot (i host on them, they are great host company) you have to have all your files in the public_html directory. dont use public_ftp (i think thats wot its called)
