anyone modified pre-existing blog software to fit site?

I have a site that needs a blog for dependant to each “space”. Has anyone done this before? I am looking to use something already existing (wordpress, etc.) and modify it to fit, look and function as I need it to since time is tight…

Anyone have any pointers, ideas, or something like this would be GREATLY appreciated. I need to launch this site by Friday.
