Yeah, this is crazy but… I need to be able to ignor characters in the middle of a filename. img src = abcde_??_ab.jpg. I never will know from the html page what the ?? ccharacters will be. the characters to the left and right of the _??_ can also be varied lengths but always known. I just will not know what the middle is.

Can anyone help with this ?[/QUOTE]
Do you know what types of characters i.e. letters only, letters and digits and is it always two characters?
When you say the other characters are always known, are they in a script-readable form?
@vodkaauthorApr 26.2006 — #alphanumeric. The first set of characters is a part nuber for the page being displayed. The last two are the unique identifier for the part number...will be ,01, 02, 03 etc. the part numer and identifier will always be unique.
The middle two will always be two and preceded bracketed with underscore in the image filename.
and example of a set of images for a single page would be
3B0GA_HZ_01
3B0GA_VY_02
3B0GA_TN_03
3B0GA_SR_04
I will know from the "scripting the 3B0GA and the 01,02,03,04 . so the
img src=3B0GA_??_04 would be the ideal simple placement of the image in an html page. What I can't figure is how to IGNORE whatever is in the middle...because they will always be changing for some odd uncontrolable reason.
