should we bother with popups?

Here is my issue:

I have a flash movie that I would like to once clicked on to be contained within a popup window. Using various javascript code I can usually get it working but have issues in IE6. Issues like the window not popping at all, popup blocker issues and popups that continue to pop forever. Good old Firefox has never caused these problems.

With the advent of popup blockers and different browsers should I forget popups and use a different design solution? Is their a magic javascript that works on everything?

What are you thoughts?

@baseiberApr 06.2006 — Popus can be useful. It depend on your target audience and the type of browser they use. If you are building something for an intranet site and you know the browser and security settings they will use then it might be ok.

If it's for the general web then I would try to avoid pop-ups.
