web hosting w/o a domain

hmm so i got the website up, but no domain ? and im waiting for my friend to get back from vacation so he can give me a domain for like 2$ a year but yeah and i know you can host a website w/o a domain name like when i type http://localhost/(frontpage of my site).htm it loads perfectly and so do all the links, so is there a way to let say my ip address is 68.299.13.27 and my port that i opened is 80 i could type http://68.299.13.27:80/localhost/frontpage.htm ? or like what order do i type it in, or do i even need to type the port in

@Ben_RogersApr 01.2006 — If the port is 80, then you needn't type it in, and if you're able to properly forward it, then this approach is fine for short-term, I suppose, as long as you understand running a server. : Also, you may want to look into No-IP

@MstrBobApr 01.2006 — Right, well...

Regarding wether your website will work without a domain name:

You can alternatively, as you said, use the IP address of your webserver. This is only going to work if you have a dedicated host, however. If you, like many, many websites, have a shared host then it won't work. The server uses the requested domain name to figure out which website to call up. It really depends on your host's configuration. But if it's not a dedicated host, you'll need a domain name.

@ray326Apr 01.2006 — "localhost" is a special host name. It means "the computer I am on right now." It also resolves to the IP address 127.0.0.1. So I think you need to drop the localhost and just use http://68.299.13.27/(sitename).
