invisible H1, h1 just for google

Hello i am working on customer site and he is a very stiff man
i want to chenge the H1 of a page to different H1 that include the keyword inside (because the old one dont have the keyword inside)
but the customer do not allow me to change the title of his page (he do not understand seo he even dont know that there are kinds oof title likr h1, h2…) he just want that the title that people will see will stay like it is with no changes (the words not the H1…) and he do not want that there will be another title on the page
and the content i can not change eather

so my question is if it will make the main tiitle that is now H1 to H2 (i wont change color or size)
and will add a new title H1 with the keyword but do her sery small and with the color of the page so that she will be insisible to the people (it will be H1 just for google, only he will see it)
it will be useful and it will work like a regular H1 title?

@rootApr 27.2018 — Why? What is the title already?

If its something like "Welcome to our site" or similar greeting, then tell your client that you have been informed that such pleasantries are pointless as the welcoming line and should project a more professional site by not including that very common mistake that businesses use.

The Header title tag is best used to strapline an opening comment that includes keywords you need... "Widgets Supplies, Widget types and where to buy them" is a much better line as it is an opening line that says what you do and how you do it rather than an opening line like "Welcome to our site, buy widgets here"...

@rootApr 28.2018 — There is no reason why you can't use the header tag and style it invisible and use a <span> tag with the clients title and style it to look as the client wants it.

What they see and whats under the hood are two different things.

@vldsam95authorApr 29.2018 — i think that you didnt understand me

the title of the page foe example "hello word" and i can not change her that what the client wants thet the people will see (now it is H1)

but i want to make another title that will be invisible for the people and make her H1 instead (keep the "hello word" but make her H2)

@rootApr 29.2018 — And if your client understood the relevance of a greeting in a header tag is hurting rather than benefiting their site, you will be going around in circles.

Any sensible business owner will see the reasoning for this when its explained, however, you are not picking up on the fat that you can change the H1 tag to whatever you want, hide it and introduce another H1 tag with their chosen greeting, there is no law saying that you can not have two or more H1 tags.

@KivanMay 02.2018 — Just try to use header tag

@nesirMay 02.2018 — Header meta tags are meant to talk to google as a website, everything else should be for users h1 tags image alt tags and so forth. Google will also read these but it will know if you are trying to write for it or for the user.

Google also considers hiding anything visually from a user without a way to access it as a manipulative practice. I would tread carefully here.

I have come across this too doing some work for clients many clients want beautiful writing as i put it but without realising that you still need to be relevant to google. Many a time i let them have their way a few months down the line theyl ask me about traffic and rankings and il say your site is just not relevant to what people are searching... we can try change that. They tend to listen the second time around. SOME however will not face the humiliation of being wrong and go to another web designer and tell them you dont know what you were doing and that new developer will do just what you suggested. It sucks but do you want to be tied to a customer like that? One that comes to you for your knowledge on web design or seo and then still tells you what to do... Its not worth it mate.

There is a trick i learnt that works on some level with some clients, never tell the client directly you need to do this for a better ranking... stiff guys like that push back instead try to find a way to make him think it was his idea the he will be all for it.

@rootMay 03.2018 — @nesir#1591745 Check what google experts say about meta as well as them parsing the page content, looking at tags, links, images, and keywords that will be useful in finding the page...

In regard to SEO, hiding text in an H1 is likely to hurt you (for intentionally hiding text) more than the H1 will help you. I will speculate that you would be better to put the H1 tagged text somewhere else on the page and simply use CSS to format it as standard text. (and thus changing the existing H1 text to H2 (or P) as you indicated.

@brad_jonesMay 03.2018 — Oh... and if you are only adding the H1 for Google, then (as others also stated), then the better option is likely to use the Meta tags.

good idea thank you!

@FoggyMay 08.2018 — Meta tags and content are very important things in SEO. How does client not allow you to change anything of that? You meta and texts should contain keywords, so google can understand about what the page is.

You should explain to the client the h1 has to be changed.

As i know, google recommends to put headers in hierarchy.

You can try to do it that way as you wish. And if there will be no results, than you have to do it right.

@nesirMay 21.2018 — @brad_jones#1591785 this is what i do most of the time when clients dont agree with me , i give the h1 a class that basically makes it look more or less like a h2 or h3 tag. They dont know the difference but google will. This might even fall under manipulative practice but i have yet to see any penalty or ill rankings for it.
