server side language

What does this term mean? I am trying to create an on line poll that gives results when someone submits their vote. It creats a popup window that opens with the current results. 😮

@buntineJul 30.2004 — Using a SS language allows you to execute code on the server. Server Side files reside on the Web Server.

Normal HTML code is sent to the client, just like a regulat static Web Page.
